WTBR - Wind Turbine Blade Repair

This 5-day course is an intensive “Hands-On” training experience that has been designed for Field Technicians, manufacturing personnel and Design / Repair Engineers responsible for structural repairs on large or small scale composite wind turbine blades.

Combining both theory and hands-on repair processes, ACT applies state-of-the-art equipment and repair methodologies to composite materials, used for both the manufacture and repair of these complex composite structures. Trainess will be introduced to non-destructive inspection techniques using digital tap hammers.

Trainees will be instructed and then challenged to determine the type of flaws and the extent of the damage to a blade section (or coupon). They will then be asked to select the appropriate repair method and materials and proceed to perform the repair using vacuum bag and heat accelerated cures. During this process the trainees will be introduced to WichiTech's Clearly Superior "HB1 Hot-bond" repair device which provides the blade repair industry with an advantage in performing high-quality rapid repairs.

This course is instructed at the ACT training institutes located in London, Ontario Canada and in Shannon, Ireland. The WTBR course may also be instructed “On-Site” at our customers own facilities anywhere, world-wide. Call for details!

Topics covered in this 5-Day course include:

  • Basics of blade design and function, lightning strike damage
  • Fiber types and physical / thermal characteristics of fibers
  • Resin matrix systems and bonding adhesives
  • Basic repair design considerations for application of laminate patches
  • Proper techniques for contamination and damage removal
  • Laminating processes, fiber orientation, vacuum bag installation
  • Application of heat to accelerate resin cures
  • Using “Hot Bonders" to control the applied heat curing process

Prerequisites
Prior composites experience or training is not required.

Note: In compliance with the Province of Ontario Private Career Colleges Act 2005, ACT can only accept trainee registration and payment through third party contract. Please contact us for further details.
