Module 3 – Advanced Structural Repair Methods “Beyond the SRM”

Referencing the original design drawings & data, Trainees are presented with the challenge of creating a repair design for an aircraft structure that has been damaged well outside of the allowable limitations of a Structural Repair Manual [SRM]. These same methods and hands-on techniques may also be applied to advanced Automotive & Marine structures.

Description:

This course is a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices associated with the repair of aircraft composite structures, in the absence of accurate structural repair data. Trainees will participate in group workshops requiring the preparation and presentation of an Engineering Order Repair data package.
This course is based upon aircraft structural repair techniques and references several different industry sources for acceptable methods, techniques, and practices.

Topics covered in this 5-day course include:

  • Examination of new advanced composites materials; Fiber Metal Laminates, GLARE, etc.
  • Practical exercises in the creation of repair designs to damaged structures
  • Theory involving material properties & substitutions
  • Examination of the format of a Compliance Program for repair approvals
  • Practical application of techniques for complex repairs of composite and metal bonded structures

Prerequisites: We recommend ACT’s Module 1 and Module 2, or equivalent practical experience and training in aircraft composite structural repair.

Accreditation:

FAA – Federal Aviation Administration acceptable towards Inspection Authorization (IA) Renewal Training.
