    Composite Technician
    Vayu, Inc. is a growing, fast-paced startup located in Ypsilanti, Michigan (at Willow Run Airport) that builds fully autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for medical supply transport in developing countries. Vayu hires optimists, valuing excellent communication skills, insatiable curiosity, incredible persistence, independence, sound judgment, and a commitment to social justice. 
     
    Qualified individuals should have a background in composites, ability to read technical drawings, and experience with a variety of hand tools. In addition, they will be expected to do the following:
    • Assist production with carbon fiber parts fabrication and post processing.
    • Manage organization and revisions of parts fabrication checklists, assisting with quality control.
    • Operate the company\\\'s 3-axis CNC 
    • Prepare aircraft for test flights (sensor calibration, etc).
    • Manage GANTT chart to reflect current production goals, anticipate inventory or other barriers that prevent production goals from being met.

    Paterson Composites Inc. is looking for general labourers that can be trained to perform a variety of roles in the composites manufacturing process. This is an excellent opportunity to transition to a skilled trade or alternative industry into the unique and growing composites industry. We are seeking enthusiastic, positive and hardworking individual to join our team.

    Rate: $16-18/hr
    Typical shop hours run: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
    Job type: Full-Time
    Location: Etobicoke, Ontario

    Experience:

    • Mechanically inclined with competency when working with both hands and power tools
    • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, sketches, engineering drawings and process plans
    • Comfort with units and measurement
    • Previous experience in a skilled trade an asset but not a requirement
    • Experience with design, fabrication and finishing will be considered an asset
    • Previous experience in manufacturing of composites is an asset, but not a requirement

    Competencies:

    • Attention to detail and ability to solve problems
    • Ability to manage time, multitask accordingly and shift to one project from another quickly as business needs change
    • Effective in communication with co-workers and leaders
    • Accountability in work ethic and ownership of workmanship results (both positive and negative)
    • Open to learning along with providing input
    • Accountable in attendance and timing
    • Must pass Controlled Goods Security Assessment (including National Criminal Records Check)

    Responsibilities:

    General Labourers will be an integral part of meeting client expectations as they work from start to finish in the manufacturing process.  The following job responsibilities will be trained and performed:

    • General composite skills:
    • Ply cutting, lamination, vacuum bagging of carbon fiber, glass fiber and other composite materials
    • Mixing of resins, adhesives, fillers, primers and paints
    • Sanding, filling, fairing, finishing and general paint preparation tasks
    • Follow prescribed paperwork and safety procedures
    • General cleanup

    • Wet-sand and polish components utilizing various buffing techniques
    • Follow ISO and AS procedures accordingly
    • Follow prescribed paperwork and safety procedures
