Module 2 - Advanced Composite Structures, Damage Evaluation and Repair

This course challenges the trainee with more complex repairs, utilizing advanced “Pre-Preg” materials. Trainees perform repairs with state-of-the-art “HOT BONDERS”. The focus of this module is on the more advanced methods for heat accelerated cures and includes instruction in LSP – Lightning Strike Protection.

Topics covered in this 5-day course include:

  • Bonded repairs to thin, highly stressed structures
  • Concentrates on more difficult and advanced repair situations & techniques
  • Detection of flaws and damage in composite structures using various NDI methods, ie: “Tap-Testing”- mechanical impedance, ultrasound and infrared thermography
  • Thermal characteristics of composites, avoiding heat related flaws in the repair process
  • Programming “hot bonders” for control of accelerated cures and pre-preg fibers
  • Performing repairs referencing the SRM ( Structural Repair Manual ) for various structures
