CRED Module 2 – Advanced Composites Repair Analysis

Overview

CRED Module 2 builds directly on the engineering principles established in Module 1 and applies them to the analysis, design, and substantiation of repairs to damaged primary load-bearing composite structures.

This course bridges the gap between theory and real-world application, focusing on restoring structural integrity through properly engineered composite repairs.

Course Description

Participants will fabricate a composite structural component that will be intentionally damaged, analysed, and repaired as part of a controlled engineering process. Using Classical Laminate Theory and approved engineering methods, trainees will calculate repair design parameters and implement a repair intended to restore the original structural strength.

Following repair, the component will be re-tested to validate the effectiveness of the repair design and confirm compliance with structural performance requirements.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this 5-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Analyse damage in primary load-bearing composite structures
  • Perform repair stress analysis using CLT
  • Design composite repairs to restore original load-carrying capability
  • Apply engineering substantiation techniques to repair designs
  • Validate repair effectiveness through testing and analysis

Topics Covered

  • Advanced application of Classical Laminate Theory
  • Damage assessment and repair classification
  • Repair design methodology for primary structures
  • Load path restoration and strength recovery
  • Repair implementation techniques
  • Post-repair testing and validation
