CRED Module 1 – Composite Repair Engineering Design
Overview
Young’s Modulus, Modulus of Elasticity, Hooke’s Law, and Poisson’s Ratio take on very different characteristics when applied to composite material structures. CRED Module 1 provides the essential engineering foundation required to understand how composite laminates behave under load and how damage mechanisms influence structural performance.
This course has been specifically designed for degree-qualified engineers (Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace) and technical professionals who require a rigorous introduction to composite structures manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering repair design.
Description:
Delivered through a combination of in-depth classroom instruction and hands-on workshop activities, CRED Module 1 focuses on the engineering fundamentals behind composite materials and structural behaviour. Particular emphasis is placed on the mathematical analysis of laminate failure, to make sure participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical application.
Hands-on workshop projects include the fabrication of composite test panels, which are used to reinforce classroom concepts and prepare trainees for advanced analysis and repair design work in subsequent modules.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this 5-day course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the mechanical behaviour of composite materials and laminate structures
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to composite design and damage assessment
- Interpret stress–strain relationships specific to anisotropic materials
- Perform basic laminate analysis using established engineering methodologies
Topics Covered
- Composite materials and structural design concepts
- Anisotropic material behaviour
- Classical Laminate Theory (CLT)
- Laminate failure criteria
- Damage types, causes, and failure mechanisms
- Introduction to composite repair engineering principles
This course is math-intensive and engineering-focused. We do the math.
